The pandemic life sucks

The movie “groundhog day” has become real

It has been now 10 weeks or 84 days since we have been staying at home because as senior citizens, we have been advised to do so due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. Meats and various other supplies at the food markets have been devastated because of the Covid-19 virus affecting the meatpacking and food distribution industries. We buy what we can and have taken to being conservative about such food staples. Believe me, we are not vegans by any means.

We have also eaten countless bowls of “potstickers” to the point where our eye glaze over.

I joined the “Make your own starter yeast” craze because yeast is non-existent at the food markets. It took me 2 attempts before I was successful. Since we had extra pork loin cuts, I decided to make Chinese Dim Sum pork buns. I carefully made the required bun dough and set aside because it had to rest awhile to rise. Later on, my wife went into the kitchen while I was sitting in the living room. I suddenly heard her scream out that the dough has over-expanded, and had climbed out of its bowl and is now crawling on the kitchen floor! As the wife was screaming, the cats provided the backup vocals, it was un-nerving!

I finally cleaned up the kitchen, remade the dough, and completed the pork buns, but I think I made too many!

I also decided to “Boldly Go Where No-one Has Gone Before,” by creating a starter yeast “Snickers Bar Cake” with chocolate chips…
