Leading from Behind?

Countries wage war with the stroke of a pen.
Generals send troops into battle,
ㅤfighting from afar.
Majors position their battalions,
ㅤstill removed from the fray.
Squad leaders move with their soldiers,
ㅤimmersed in the heat of the battle.

When Christ battles for our souls,
ㅤhe stands in front.
He endures the trials.
As he invests himself in the battle,
ㅤhis blood flows.

When he faces the accuser,
ㅤhis wounds are on display.
His suffering,
ㅤvisible.
His torment,
ㅤworn on his brow,
Visible beneath a crown of thorns.

Jesus knows us.
He knows,
ㅤhe has experienced,
Our pain.
Our loss.
Our…

Rejection.

Yes, forsaken by,
ㅤseparated from,
The Father.
For us.
He stood firmly in our place.
He paid our ransom.

And now?

We are free.
Life is there for the taking.
Eternal life.
Freely offered,
ㅤbut not freely earned.
For the price paid was dear.

Lord Jesus…
Your gift,
ㅤyour offering…
Is unfathomable.
