Keeping Busy in Retirement

I recently retired but like to keep busy, so I set up a small woodworking shop and I build Tack Lockers and several other things. For those that don’t know a Tack Locker is where a horse rider stores their tack. This includes saddles, boots, Bridles, ropes, and all of the other things needed to look after a horse and its rider. I build these Tack Lockers in Edmonton, Alberta Canada and in most cases I deliver the finished product to my customers. My usual market area includes all of Alberta but I would also deliver these products to British Columbia and Saskatchewan.

The Tack Lockers that I build are usually 42 inches, 92 cm high, 36 inches, 79 cm deep, and 36 inches, 79 cm wide. The boxes are made using OSB or plywood, and the front doors are made of solid wood with plywood inserts. Inside the Lockers have room for a single saddle mount, that I build from scratch and a set of bridle hangers that I also build from scratch. Some of my customers provide their own saddle racks and bridle hangers. In each locker there is room for 4 bridle hangers and 1 saddle rack.

The Tack Lockers are usually stained with a dark or light stain depending on the preference of the customer and they can be stained or painted any colour you want. Customers also have the choice of black or silver hardware.
