For A Lost Cause

A poem to slow down in the race of life.

We scrupulously plan for a future so far in time,
ignorant of a multitude of uncertain variables
only to retract & abandon plotlines, sculptured
meticulously over the beads on the strings of time.
Why, if not for a lost cause?

We end up exactly where we are supposed to,
When we are supposed to & how.
Yet, we row against the stream
Wrestle, tussle and finally tumble
Only to race again & repeat
Why, if not for a lost cause?

Why aimlessly run in the dark of malevolent terrors?
Why timorously jump off cliffs to face whimsical fears?
Why mirthlessly smile to conceal storming tears?
Why refute the truth in the screaming mirrors?
Why, if not for a lost cause?

In this incessant journey to nowhere,
Pitilessly wrecked by the ever-triumphant time
Wounded beyond recognition by own expectations
Betrayed by erratic mischief called luck
We end up there, nonetheless.

Yet, why contrite, for all is not your fault?
Why rummage through those forgotten regrets,
Oblivious to now, present & its wondrous moments?
Take a breath, look around, rejoice & unpause
Why tirelessly suffer, if not for a lost cause?
